The Network: For Hmong Professionals and Referrals

The bright lights of Hmong businesses illuminate an evening drive down St. Paul’s University Avenue, revealing the vast number of Hmong businesses in the Twin Cities.  2010 Census information on Minnesota's Hmong workforce suggests that there are perhaps 800 Hmong-owned businesses in the area, a huge increase from the 250 that the Hmong Cultural and Resource Center estimated in 2005.

Digital Connectors and HAP Benefit From 11th Annual Comcast Cares Day

On Saturday, April 21, 2012, Comcast provided service to all 3 Hmong American Partnership (HAP) sites for the 11th annual Comcast Cares Day. This is a day crated for the corporation to reach out and work for nonprofits. 33 site coordinators led more than 1300 Comcast employees, their families and friends for a morning of volunteering for 24 nonprofits in the Twin Cities area.

IN HIS OWN WORDS: INTERVIEW WITH FOUNG HAWJ

Foung Hawj is seeking the DFL endorsement at the SD67 Convention on March 31 at Harding High School. Hmong Pages sat down with Foung Hawj for an interview on his candidacy and his stands on the issues.

Hmong Pages: “You are running against an incumbent DFL state senator. Why are you running?”

Foung Hawj: “The East-side is a very diverse community, and I think that I can represent our part of the city. I am part of the Hmong community, but I am involved and network with other parts of the community as well. I want to make sure that the East-side is represented in the Senate. … I want to give the underrepresented a voice to be heard.”

2012 Asian Pacific Day at the Capitol: A Focus on Education and Advocacy

On March 19th, 2012, the Council on Asian Pacific Minnesotans (CAPM) held the 2012 Asian Pacific Island Day at the Capitol with the central theme of “Educational Success for Every Student.” During the day, community members rallied together to listen to local community leaders, professionals, and students speak on behalf of how the Asian Pacific community has impacted the state of Minnesota and how crucial the element of education has been in their leadership roles. Also present were numerous local politicians, including Superintendent of St. Paul Public schools Valeria Silva, Senator John Harrington, Dean Urdahl of the MN House of Representatives, as well as Governor Mark Dayton. The annual Day at the capitol is held as a way to help deliver concerns effectively from community members directly to state legislators.

3,000 grants encouraging underserved girls to reach for their dreams

April 25th event to celebrate 15th anniversary of supporting girls and women

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (April 2012) -- The Ann Bancroft Foundation (ABF) has reached a significant milestone.  Celebrating its 15th anniversary, the Foundation has awarded grants to 3,000 girls.   ABF grants help girls take the first steps toward fresh possibilities.  They serve as a springboard to the next exploration and help girls to gain a new perspective on their own abilities and goals.
