LRT Construction Along University Avenue Has Local Businesses Reeling
The Hurt Is On…
Nobody can claim that the Central Corridor LRT construction came as a surprise to businesses along the Frogtown section of University Avenue. The Metropolitan Council, the City of Saint Paul, and numerous non-profits have worked hard to get the word out and prepare local businesses for the disruptions that are part of any major construction project. Still, during the first month of heavy construction, many of the businesses along the corridor struggle to deal with the fall-out of lack of customer access, parking woes, and frequent utility shut-offs. For some of them, apprehension about this year’s construction already has turned into desperation.

3rd Annual Qhia Dab Neeg Film Festival

May 17th – 19th The 3rd Annual Qhia Dab Neeg (storytelling) Film Festival is presented by Metropolitan State University and In Progress, a nonprofit media arts organization both working in partnership to making this event successful. The purpose of the Qhia Dab Neeg Film Festival is to recognize Hmong storytellers in the art of video & film, whether they are established or emerging filmmakers.

Hmong College Prep Academy to Host Pro Wrestling Fundraiser
St. Paul, MN—Hmong College Prep Academy will be hosting an evening of pro wrestling and family entertainment on Saturday, May 12th. The action will take place in the school’s gym and also feature live music and break dancing exhibitions.
HCPA Social Studies teacher Morgan McLaughlin is very excited about pro wrestling coming to HCPA. “It’s going to be a great night of entertainment,” stated Mr. McLaughlin. “We’re partnering with the American Wrestling Federation, a St. Paul-based group that is regularly seen on KSTC Channel 45 and puts on shows throughout the Midwest. It should be a lot of fun.”

Hmong College Prep Academy Drama Class to Host a Night of One Act Plays Middle School Choir to also Perform
Hmong College Prep Academy will be hosting an evening of music and theater on May 11th.
The school’s drama class, a mix of students in grades 9-12, will be presenting a set of 5 one-act plays—Duck, Dorothy & Alice, Post-it Notes, There Shall Be No Bottom (a bad play for worse actors...) and Words, Words, Words. HCPA’s Middle School Choir is also on the entertainment docket and will be performing Guys and Dolls, Jr.—A Musical Review.
